A Good List

A couple of my fellow bloggers have already mentioned that it's Banned Books Week. I don't have much to add, except to note that Time has put together a pretty good list of ten "of the most challenged books of all time." It's not a rigorous statistical analysis, but it's a pretty good list nonetheless:

• The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, by Mark Twain
• Brave New World, by Aldous Huxley
• 1984, by George Orwell
• The Catcher in the Rye, by J.D. Salinger
• Lolita, by Vladimir Nabokov
• I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, by Maya Angelou
• The Anarchist Cookbook, by William Powell
• The Satanic Verses, by Salman Rushdie
• Harry Potter . . ., by J.K. Rowling

I'm a little chuffed to admit I've only read the first five and seen both major film adaptations of Lolita (oh, thrown in the Bernstein, et. al., version of Candide, too!), but I've not yet gotten to the others. Supposed I should put them on my "to read" list, huh?
