The old cliche says that "there are no atheists in foxholes." That, of course, is horse shit. And, as this article makes clear, those atheists who serve in the armed services are subject to pressures and disparate treatment because of their lack of faith. Stuff like this:
Just last month Lt. Gen. H. Steven Blum, chief of the National Guard Bureau, said, 'Agnostics, atheists and bigots suddenly lose all that when their life is on the line.'Nice. The non-believers are on the same level as racists and anti-Semites. And people wonder why we don't like Christians?

Last night on "The Colbert Report" our favorite O'Reilly spoofer was suggesting that we should send all the atheists and agnostics in the military overseas (but the agnostics could go to Afghanistan...where they will learn to believe in something) and bring those Christian boys home. I wasn't sure where that came from till I saw your post.
Of course you're right, Rt75. But, you're not the chief of the National Guard Bureau, are you? That attitude is all too prevalent in modern America (and Dubya's administration).
