By now, you've no doubt heard about Dick Cheney's little attempt at humor at the expense of my fair state:
'So we had Cheneys on both sides of the family — and we don’t even live in West Virginia,' the vice president deadpanned […] 'You can say these things when you’re not running for re-election.'The Times blog post collects some of the reaction (but misses the dubbing of Dick a jacknut). My personal favorite:
Senator Robert C. Byrd, likewise a Democrat and a frequent critic of the Bush administration, offered another few words hours before heading to the hospital because of a fever. 'This pitiful comment is not entirely surprising when you consider the source,' he said. It's also worth considering that I have heard, from a reliable source,* that the only reason Dick made it to Congress in the first place is the voters of Wyoming wanted him out of the state!
For the record, I don't really have any objections to West Virginia jokes, but could we get some new material, already? Family fucker jokes are so 20th century!
* The girlfriend is a native Wyomingite and lives with the Cheney shame every day.
