Schizophonic, by Robben Ford (1976): My first exposure to Robben Ford was as a rock/blues guitar slinger with his band The Blue Line. Cut from cloth similar to, say, Stevie Ray Vaughn and Eric Johnson, but less pyrotechnic. He also shares Johnson's not-quite-solid-enough-for-blues voice. So when I got this disc from Columbia House back in the day, I expected more of the same. To my surprise, this disc from early in Ford's career is all instrumental and has him splitting time between guitar and sax. Musically, it's much more cool jazz than rock/blues and, quite frankly, not all that intriguing. I much prefer his later work.
